Position: Specialist Software Engineer / Database Architect

The role mainly involves:

  • Design, development and implementation of a new RDBMS search mechanism
  • Schema design and implementation
  • Data migration from external systems
  • Low-level implementation of algorithms that affect search results
  • Working with internal business clients to understand their requirements and translate into value-generating technical solutions
  • Supporting, troubleshooting and managing production applications

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience with enterprise database servers (Oracle 9i,10g)
  • Text Search experience (Oracle Intermedia/Text) including Fuzzy logic expansion
  • Spatial Search experience (Oracle Locator/Spatial)
  • Extensive performance tuning experience
  • Database design skills, indexing, size and performance estimation skills
  • Integration between RDBMS and Web based clients
  • Some experience with Geo-coding mechanisms
  • Analytical mind and creative approach to problem solving.
  • Object Oriented Design & Development using UML.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable

  • BSc or MSc (preferred) in Computer Science, Maths or similar, with a minimum 2.1 from a top tier university (or equivalent).
  • Team leading, lead developer or other management experience.
  • Experience in financial services and/or a strong e-commerce experience is very useful.
